Just like Uncle Sam “We Want You.” It takes about 1000 volunteers to run the parade and keep the neighborhood humming on Grand Parade Day. Every event needs volunteers and we encourage people to volunteer for more than one event – Wine Taste and Grand Parade, for instance, or multiple Schlafly Brew Tent shifts. Your preferences should dictate when and where you volunteer.
If you have a group you can organize and bring, MGI may be able to make a donation to the non-profit group they represent: We have had Shriners, a summer camp and a couple of children’s football programs send volunteers that caused the organization to receive donations to underwrite their own activities. Payments will be made on a sliding scale – 10-20 volunteers earn $4.00 per hour; 21-30 volunteers earn $5 per hour; 31+ earn $6 per hour. MGI reserves the right to place your group where the need is greatest, but we will keep you as a group.
All volunteers get a volunteer T-shirt, meals while on duty, free parking on Grand Parade day, and an invitation to the Thank You party after Mardi Gras. It’s lots of fun to get behind the scenes and see the activities from a great vantage point.
